Opus

A surgical logbook you fill in while the case is fresh.

Opus codes each case with SNOMED CT as you log it, keeps it encrypted on your phone, and lays it out for the logbooks and registries you report to.

Logging

A case, start to save.

Describe the injury with chips and the diagnosis arrives coded, with the operations usually recorded for it. Recorded from the app on an iPhone: a ring-finger metacarpal fracture plated, about 98 seconds at reading pace, never sped up.

app time0:00/ 1:38

1 / 10Identifier, date of birth, a name, sex and ethnicity. The identifier field is labelled NHI or URN by your country of practice; name and date of birth are optional and stay encrypted on the phone.

Team

One logs. The team confirms.

One member of the operating team logs the case and tags the others. Each receives it end-to-end encrypted, confirms they were there, and a senior colleague attests the role and supervision per procedure. The export names who attested.

Three people in theatre, one phone out. The registrar logs the case and tags the two colleagues with the role each played.

Your data

The server never holds readable patient data.

The logbook lives on your phone, encrypted. A shared case is sealed to your colleague's own devices before it leaves; assessments are blinded; a backup is sealed to a Recovery Key only you hold. Scene by scene, with what the server can read.

A case is saved. Nothing leaves the phone.

Where it is

Private beta, built by a surgeon.

Opus is written by a Consultant Plastic and Hand Surgeon in New Zealand and used by surgeons on TestFlight in New Zealand and Australia. It is a documentation tool: it records what you did and gives no treatment advice. The company behind it and its legal review are in progress, and that is said here rather than implied otherwise.

Every report format is laid out from a published field list or template. Opus is independent of the colleges and societies whose layouts it produces.
